Turner Classic Movies (TCM) today unveiled plans for a new original documentary on Hollywood enigma Howard Hughes. Unlike previous Howard Hughes projects, TCMís documentary will focus specifically on the magnateís endeavors in motion pictures and his exploits with the women of Hollywood. With the working title of Howard Hughes: His Movies and His Women, the documentary is slated to premiere on TCM in June of 2000.
Hughesí story is both amazing and mysterious. The films of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s changed cinema, and Howard Hughes was a major player in the shaping of those films, stretching the definitions of what was possible and what was acceptable. However, it wasnít until recently that any parts of his private life were revealed, particularly his escapades in Hollywood. This is the first time that audio recordings
Hughes was the producer of such important motion pictures as THE FRONT PAGE (1931), SCARFACE (1932), THE OUTLAW (1943), HOLIDAY AFFAIR (1949), HIS KIND OF WOMAN (1951) and THE FRENCH LINE (1954). TCMís documentary will take its audience through Hughesí career, movie by movie, including profiles of the women he was involved with during each project, including some of Hollywoodís greatest screen sirens ñ Katharine Hepburn, Jean Harlow, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Ginger Rogers.
