On April 14 at 8 p.m., Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present the latest installment in its ongoing Private Screenings interview series, Private Screenings: Rod Steiger. Hosted by TCM host Robert Osborne, this hour-long special delves into the life and career of the star of such films as IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967), which earned him an Academy Award
®; DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965); and the recently released HURRICANE.Steiger began his career on the New York stage and moved to live television in such groundbreaking productions as Paddy Chayefskyís Marty (1953). His performances also include playing Marlon Brandoís older brother in On the Waterfront (1954), for which he was recognized with his first Oscar
® nomination; Jud in Oklahoma! (1955); the title character in Al Capone (1959); and a haunted concentration camp survivor in The Pawnbroker (1965), which earned him another Oscar® nomination.Each edition of Private Screenings features TCM host and noted columnist Robert Osborne in a one-on-one conversation with a Hollywood great. Past specials have showcased Esther Williams, Charlton Heston, Tony Curtis, Leslie Caron and, in tandem, friends and co-stars Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell.
