on July 18 With Elusive Star Betty Hutton, Her First
TV Appearance in 20 Years

On July 18 at 8 p.m., Turner Classic Movies (turnerclassicmovies.com) continues the fourth season of its highly acclaimed interview series with the world television premiere of PRIVATE SCREENINGS: BETTY HUTTON. This intimate, hour-long interview with actress/singer Betty Hutton marks her first television appearance in 20 years.
Fans knew her as "The Blonde Bombshell" and in her heyday, Hutton was as well known as stars like Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe. During her career, she starred in 20 films, performed on Broadway, made several records and had her own TV show, but by the 1970's, she had dropped completely out of public view. Her whereabouts remained a mystery until 1974 when she was rediscovered living a humble life in a Catholic rectory in Rhode Island.
In this landmark interview, Hutton talks with TCM network host, Robert Osborne, about the best and worst moments of her career, including her experience on the set of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, and the personal, off-camera troubles that led her to leave the limelight. She candidly discusses her failed marriages, her children and her choice to live in seclusion for 25 years. She speaks of the deep relationship she developed with Father Maguire at the rectory and the personal discoveries she made with his support.
Following the documentary, TCM will air some of Hutton's best-known and most-loved films: INCENDIARY BLONDE (1945), SOMEBODY LOVES ME (1952), THE PERILS OF PAULINE (1947) and THE STORK CLUB (1945).
