Robert Mitchum (1917-1997) has long been one of America's most beloved "tough guys." The multi-talented Mitchum got his start in low-budget Westerns, but made his big break during World War II playing tough, realistic soldier characters in films like "The Story of G.I. Joe." His versatility is often underplayed, but Mitchum's credits include comedies such as "Holiday Affair" and thrillers like "Cape Fear" and "Night of the Hunter," in addition to the trademark cynic he portrayed in films like "Blood on the Moon."

This Saturday, Turner Classic Movies remembers the late Robert Mitchum with an all-day film festival featuring some of Mitchum's greatest films, as well as a special encore presentation of "Private Screenings: Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell," Mitchum's 1996 interview with TCM host Robert Osborne. In honor of Robert Mitchum's contribution to American film, TCM's regular programming for Saturday, July 5th will be replaced by the following line-up :
