Master of Deception Ricky Jay to Host

Deception and greed abound as Turner Classic Movies (TCM) kicks off a month-long festival of films dedicated to Hollywoodís tricksters and con artists. The Art of the Con begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, continuing every Wednesday and will be hosted by master of illusion and expert on scams and confidence games, Ricky Jay.

Jay will provide insight into the featured films and perform some of his trademark illusions during in the festival, which kicks off with Robert Redford and Paul Newman out for the big win in THE STING (1973, June 2, 8 p.m.). The Art of the Con continues through the month with such movies as THE CINCINNATI KID (1965, June 9, 8 p.m.), starring Ann-Margret and Steve McQueen as an up-an-coming poker player; Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in THE FORTUNE COOKIE (1966, June 9, 12:30 a.m.); ELMER GANTRY (1960, June 23, 8 p.m.), with Burt Lancaster as a salesman-turned-evangelist; and BLONDE CRAZY (1931, June 30, 9:30 p.m.), with James Cagney as a con artist who falls for feisty Joan Blondell.

Jay is best known for his one man show, ìRicky Jay and His 52 Assistants,î which set records as the fastest-selling attraction in Off-Broadway history. He is an historian and the author of books including Many Mysteries Unraveled and The Magic Magic Book. His acting credits include Boogie Nights, David Mametís House of Games and Homicide.
