This August, Friday the 13th is a fitting centennial birthday salute to the director of some of some of this century's most memorable films-Alfred Hitchcock. Turner Classic Movies celebrates the master of suspense with a four-film homage including some of his best-known work.
9 a.m. THE BIRDS (1963)-This film classic starring Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy and Suzanne Pleshette is roughly based on the Daphne du Maurier story. It tells the tale of a woman followed by birds through a small California town.
11:30 a.m. MARNIE (1964)-Here, in one of Hitchcock's oft under-appreciated movies, he traces the footsteps of a kleptomaniac (Tippi Hedren) and her boss (Sean Connery), who is determined to get to the root of her problem.
2 p.m. SUSPICION (1941)-Joan Fontaine earned a Best Actress Oscar³ for her part in this critically acclaimed film as a woman preoccupied with the idea that her husband (Cary Grant) wants to kill her.
4 p.m. DIAL M FOR MURDER (1954)-Hitchcock takes another look and marital unrest in this depiction of a man (Ray Milland) plotting the murder of his wife (Grace Kelly) and coping with the investigation that ensues.
