Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present some of the greatest classic mobster movies ever made in a Mob Mayhem Movie Marathon, on Tuesday, August 24. The eight-film, 14-hour marathon leads into sister network Turner Network Television's (TNT) world premiere of FAMILY VALUES: THE MOB & THE MOVIES, an original documentary examining our longstanding fascination with movie gangsters and their connection to the real thing. Frank Vincent (Wiseguys, Raging Bull), who hosts the TNT special, will introduce each of the Mob Mayhem Movie Marathon films airing on TCM. FAMILY VALUES: THE MOB & THE MOVIES premieres on TNT at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24.

In a festival made possible by TCM's extensive film library, each of the eight films features at least one of Warner Bros' "Murderer's Row" of signature gangster stars -- Edward G. Robinson, James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. TCM"s Mob Mayhem Movie Marathon begins at 6 a.m. with the film that kicked off the gangster genre, LITTLE CAESAR. Robinson shot to stardom in this 1930 classic as a tough-talking gang leader modeled after the infamous Al Capone. Robinson then goes comic in THE LITTLE GIANT (1933, 7:30 a.m.) as a bootlegger trying to break into high society. Next, Bogart tackles former "Dead End Kid" Billy Halop in YOU CAN'T GET AWAY WITH MURDER (1939, 9 a.m.) and gets bumped off by Cagney in both ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES (1938, 12 p.m.) and THE ROARING TWENTIES (1939, 2 p.m.).

Cagney, the tough Irish-American kid from Hell's Kitchen, rose to stardom as the Irish-American gangster from Hell's Kitchen in THE PUBLIC ENEMY (1931, 6:30 p.m.). He went straight in G-MEN (1935, 10:30 a.m.), then returned to gangster roles in ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, which brought him an OscarÆ nomination and the New York Film Critics Award. He moved to more psychologically complex gangsters in later years, earning another OscarÆ nomination as the bootlegger who guides singer Ruth Etting (Doris Day) to stardom in LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME (1955, 4 p.m.).

Turner Classic Movies, currently seen in more than 32 million homes, is a 24-hour cable network from Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. TCM presents the greatest motion pictures of all time from the largest film library in the world, the combined Time Warner and Turner film libraries, from the '20s through the '80s, commercial-free and without interruption.
