Worked in the costume departments of Paramount, MGM and Universal beginning in the 1930s and eventually became head of the wardrobe department at RKO. Pontrelli designed clothes for such stars as Ginger Rogers, Joan Fontaine and Claudette Colbert, and her creations appeared in films including "Blood on the Moon" (1948), "Witness for the Prosecution" (1957), "How the West Was Won" (1963) and "True Grit" (1969). She also worked on the TV shows "The Fugitive" and "Love, American Style" in the 1960s and designed a line of women's sportswear before retiring at the end of the decade.
