NOTES

In December 2000, Doherty was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence; she pleaded no contest in April 2001 and in June was sentenced to three years probation and fined $1500. As part of her plea, Doherty agreed to a series of speaking engagements for teenagers at which she speaks about the dangers of drinking and driving.

She underwent court-appointed treatment for anger management in 1997.

"Don't judge me for who I am, because everybody makes mistakes." --Doherty on the way she is treated by the press from Vanity Fair, November 1993.

"I really found myself and decided what I want out of life and what I can do to get there and stay on the right path." --Doherty quoted in Us magazine, November 1995.

"I don't know it's acceptable to pick on her but it is. It's like, if you haven't spent the day with her, and I know you haven't spent eight years with her, I don't want to hear your opinion." --friend and former co-star Holly Marie Combs on the press' constant negative portrayal of Doherty, quoted to TV Guide, September 1, 2001.

Served as the National Youth Ambassador for the American Lung Association, campaigning on the hazards of smoking (1988).
