Besides his uncredited appearance at age five in "Pound" and a role in "America", Downey has appeared in other films directed by his father: "Rented Lips" (1988) and "Too Much Sun" (1991).

Downey was arrested in Malibu on Sunday, June 23, 1996, on charges of driving while under the influence, carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession. He was later arrested for criminal trespass and for leaving a court-ordered rehab. Downey was sent to a "locked-down" drug rehab clinic for treatment. He was later sentenced to time served in jail and three years probation.

In November 2000, Downey was arrested for drug possession an probation violation.
