Distinguished cinematographer, best known for his work on Ingmar Bergman's early films. Fischer's sometimes subdued, sometimes stark, black-and-white photography produced some of the most impressive images of the 1950s, in films such as "Smiles of a Summer Night" (1955), "The Seventh Seal" and "Wild Strawberries" (both 1957). Son Peter Fischer is also a cinematographer.
