Berta Gersten made her mark in the world of entertainment when she acted in the biopic "The Benny Goodman Story" (1955) with Steve Allen. In 1915, she played the lead in "Yisroel's Hofnung" at the Tomashefsky Theater. In 1954, she made her Broadway debut in "The Flowering Peach." In 1933, she made her screen debut in "Yiskor." In 1918, she joined the Yiddish Art Theater troupe, which she would perform with on and off until 1950.

A cinematographer for Universal Studios for ten years, Gertsman often shot interesting and fascinating films and over the course of his career, he worked on war, sci fi, horror, comedy and even Ma and Pa Kettle films. He's also known for shooting Universal contract players publicity photos. Two of his most famous films are Sherlock Holmes' "Terror by Night" and "Dressed to Kill." Gertsman later shot films in Technicolor Westerns and war films and a handful of 3-D films as well, although his best work was shooting in black and white.
