Born in Salerno, Italy in 1957, Giuliana De Sio was raised in a performing family, making her stage debut at the age of five. At only 19, the fiery redhead was given a bit part in the comedy "San Pasquale Baylonne protettore delle donne," leading director Gianni Bongioanni to notice her and cast her in the lead in his TV movie "Una Donna," effectively starting her film career. Through the 1980s and '90s, De Sio garnered acclaim for her work diverse films such as the comedy "Scusate il ritardo," Francesco Nuti's romance "Casablanca, Casablanca," and the drama "The Wicked," in which she co-starred with Julian Sands and won the David di Donatello award for Best Actress as well as a Golden Globe. First making guest appearances on such 1990s television series as "Wolff's Turf" and "Der Kapitän," De Sio became a TV regular in 2001 when she joined the cast of the dramatic series "Il bello delle donne." From there, she was seen on the programs "Mogli a pezzi" in 2008 and "Il peccato e la vergogna" in 2010, while also acting in the occasional feature like "Il console italiano" in 2011. De Sio is the younger sister of Teresa De Sio, a well-known Italian folk singer.
