Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

American actor John M. Jackson was born on June 1, 1950, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After a severe injury permanently sidelined his football career at the University of Texas, Jackson developed an interest in the community theater and eventually went to Hollywood to pursue the craft of acting more seriously. He was able to land a handful of small television and film roles before becoming a regular on the 1987 series "Wiseguy." His first noteworthy film performance came in 1992 when he played a JAG officer opposite Tom Cruise in the critically acclaimed "A Few Good Men," a role he would end up reprising later on television. By the late 1990s, Jackson was still playing small parts on film and TV until he became a full-time cast member of the military action series "JAG" in 1996. Jackson played the curt but well-meaning Rear Admiral Albert Jethro Chegwidden for eight seasons, departing a season before the show's cancellation in 2005. He then landed another recurring role on the hit Fox crime series "Bones," where he plays FBI Deputy Director Sam Cullen.
