Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

On the sitcom "Out of this World," Maureen Flannigan starred as Evie Ethel Garland, a 13-year-old girl who realized she was an alien. The show centered on the trouble Flannigan's character often got herself into with her extraordinary powers. In that sense, the show operated as kind of a hybrid between the extraterrestrial fish-out-of-water high jinks of "3rd Rock from the Sun" and the magical powers-induced situational comedy of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," though of course "Out of this World" preceded both those shows. Flannigan's other big role was that of Shana Sullivan on the family drama "7th Heaven." Flannigan played the long-distance girlfriend of a major character, Matt Camden (played by Barry Watson). Other shows in which Flannigan had recurring characters were less successful. These included the Olympic-themed soap opera "Push" and the FX sitcom "Starved," an ill-conceived and poorly received comedy about four friends with different eating disorders.
