What can I say...one of the first films I ever saw as a child which is now one of my all-time favorite Disney films!!! And, after seeing the movie with my mom & brother, that when I got home, I ran to my bedroom, I took one of the pictures off of my bedroom wall, placed it on the floor, got up on my bed, and with an open umbrella, jumped onto the picture again & again, in a hope to recapture the moment of that mysterious land that seemed so effortless for Mary Poppins, Jane & Michael Banks, and Bert the Chimney Sweep to embark.....The songs are infectious, the story enchanting, and the performances are just so, so great. I also remember my dad taking my brother & I to the school yard park to fly kites that we made with me singing, "Let's Go Fly A Kite" loud & off key, but loving every minute of it....it brings back such wonderful memories of such a delightful film. I don't know if this film will ever be shown on TCM but if it is I'll be sure to set the "TCM Reminder" and watch!!

Disney's best live- action film since "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." Andrews won the Oscar for Best Actress, Van Dyke was nominated for a Golden Globe; the story shows the two helping the children connect with their parents in a stylized Edwardian England. Won four additional Oscars for Film editing, Special effects, Score and for the song "Chim chim Cher- ree." An entertaining family film, whose production was fictionalized in 2013's "Saving Mr. Banks." I give it a 4/5.

for all of you classic movies lovers this movie steels the show . Juile andews will warm your hearts , make you laugh , and make you believe in magic . While mr.Banks [ david tomson]in the beginning loves his money more than his children , with the help of mary poppiens , he realize that the power of love is more powerful than money .

I want to like this film more but I can't. It just doesn't work for me. The production values are great--the sets, matte paintings, and flying scenes are all wonderfully done--but the story and characterization come across as weak and contrived. A few of the songs are legendary (like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "A Spoonful of Sugar") but so many others are forced and tedious. Mr. Banks' amazing, last minute transformation after talking to a chimney sweep is un-earned and unbelievable; and Mary herself remains too mysterious and aloof to really get to know what makes her tick. It's just about them all going on one special-FX adventure/musical number after another and it gets more than a little tedious. Too long, too much Disney gloss and "sugar" for my tastes, and not enough real heart and character. *** out of *****

Mary Poppins and Bert take children on a fast moving up and down horse ride and an up and down laughing spell and an up and down chimney run. Chimney Sweeps Mary Away. Family Flys Kite, gets Promotion

What a marvelous and fun family musical comedy. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke really shine in their roles. Watch for a cameo by the great Jane Darwell (Ma Joad in "The Grapes of Wrath") as the Bird Woman.
