  • Director/writer John Payson makes his full-length feature directorial debut with "Joe's Apartment." Payson was born and raised in Northern New England. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1983, he moved to New York. In 1984, Payson joined MTV, eventually becoming Director of MTV's On-Air Creative Department. In that capacity, he oversaw the production of MTV's promos, animation and interstitial programming. In 1991, Payson produced Henry Selick's award-winning short, "Slow Bob In the Lower Dimensions." He then wrote and directed the award-winning short film, "Joe's Apartment," which aired on MTV in 1992. He was also the supervising producer of MTV's half-hour animated variety series, "Liquid Television."
