Lieut. Bob Warburton is granted a year's leave of absence from the U.S. Cavalry after he saves a train from an Indian raid. He visits his sister Nancy and brother Jack in Washington, D.C., then goes to Monte Carlo where he becomes infatuated with Betty Annesley, the daughter of retired military strategist Colonel Annesley. Annesley, a compulsive gambler, is heavily indebted to Karloff, a Russian agent who loves Betty. Returning to Washington on the S. S. Cedric , Bob tries unsuccessfully to meet Betty who, unknown to him, is Nancy's best friend. Through a series of Bob's pranks and mix-ups Bob becomes Betty's groom, then her butler, and in such a position is able to thwart Karloff's pursuit of her as well as his attempts to gain secret U.S. documents. In the end, Betty discovers Bob's true identity in a Warburton family album and proclaims her love for him.
