Excellent work from both George Raft and Humphrey Bogart. Bogart's billing wasn't tops, but his acting was, like always. Typical Warner movie of the times, very good.
Great Acting By Almost All
Holden's first roles, this and Golden Boy.Didn't care for him,too hair-triggered to earn my sympathy.George's character meets his end helping his younger brother make good.He was too whiny,Billy Boy!He was lucky to have a great gal like Jane Bryan to star opposite as his wife to be.Don't think Wayne Morris would've been an improvement, after seeing him as a younger, stupid brother to James Cagney in another Warner's film.
One Of First Roles For Wm Holden
My only objection about this film was Holden's character-too goody goody.Fine George Raft acting,as everyone else, esp Warner's character actors,so many now familiar faces. As good as EACH DAWN I DIE,where George was outstanding.Bogart excellent, even if he and George didn't get on.Bogie showed how great an actor, well deserving of his future fame.
