MR. DEAR MISS ALDRICH - good movie!
When the owner of the New York Globe-Leader dies without making a will, the paper is inherited by his only living relative, an "old maid schoolteacher" from Nebraska. Martha Aldrich, along with her Aunt Lou, heads for New York, where managing editor Ken Morley's attitude towards women reporters prompts Martha into taking a reporter's job on her own newspaper. Then she proceeds to prove she can be as good a reporter as any man. Maureen O'Sullivan and Walter Pidgeon are a good pairing in this movie. Edna Mae Oliver has the aunt is terrific. Please put this movie on DVD!
This film is watchable with a predictable ending but I watch anything starring Edna May Oliver so I just might be a bit prejudice in my review. Maureen O'Sullivan is a young beauty here and she's paired with the great Walter Pigeon who I believe might have been a tad too old to be a love interest for her but it does work. The fantastic Edna May Oliver is so worth watching and has the best lines in the film!
My Dear Ms. Aldrich
- Ann Brooks
I really love watching TCM, I truely enjoy movies from the 1930's, and 1940's. Times were so simple then. I am fifty years old, and I really wish I could have been alive to see some of the movies you show. This morning I had a day off from work: so I was able to spend the morning watching "It's Love I'm After", and then" My Dear Ms. Aldrich". I was really disappointed to find out I could not add this movie to my collection of old movies. I have hundreds of movies that I can watch anytime. Of course I have seen them first at TCM.Thanks so much for giving me a taste of a simple time, when life was filled with goodness.Sincerely,Ann Brooks770-346-0575
