Although the film was released in color, the print viewed was black and white and was titled Thunder over Hawaii, the film's reissue title. An opening title card reads: "Our thanks to the Territory of Hawaii, the Bishop Museum and the people of the island of Kauai for their kindness and cooperation which has made this picture possible." Naked Paradise was shot on location on Kauai at the same time, with the same crew and two common cast members, as She Gods of Shark Reef (see below), which was released in 1958.
The Variety review incorrectly lists the character played by Lisa Montell as "Keena." A August 16, 1956 Hollywood Reporter news item reported that John Ireland would star in and direct Naked Paradise for producer Roger Corman, but a August 31, 1956 Hollywood Reporter news item announced that Richard Denning had replaced Ireland, who was heading to the East Coast to reconcile with his wife, Joanne Dru.
