I saw Red Sky At Morning the summer it came out at the ABC Interstate Cinema I & II in Bryan/College Station, Texas. The film has haunted my memories every since. It has a fantastic pedigree both in front of and behind the camera. Its the kind of film Universal used to be known for.The film was a bomb when it came out and Universal - like all other studios - retooled the marketing campaign and re-released it. I caught it on that second release. I still cannot figure out why the film was not a hit at the boxoffice???? Everybody, whom I know, that has seen it - when it first came out - LOVED IT. But I was fourteen when I saw it. Maybe if I saw it today - I might find it trite? I hope not! The music in it - has stuck in my head all these years. I recently wrote the new head of Universal Home Entertainment begging them to release it - in its proper aspect ratio on DVD and short of that I have asked them to strike a new broadcast quality HD copy for TCM - so YOU TCM could show it!If you, like me, love this film and want to see it again - then may I encourage you too - to write Universal either via snail mail or email and bug the heck out of Universal to "get er done". Heck I am willing to start a GoFundMe page to donate monies to Universal - to make it happen! Pray the reason they have been reluctant to release it on DVD is NOT because the negative was destroyed in one of those Universal vault fires!

THERE ARE A FEW GREAT COMING OF AGE MOVIES. NOT IN ORDER THEY ARE, THE HUMAN COMEDY, SUMMER OF 42 AND RED SKY AT MORNING. MY WIFE AND I SAW RED SKY WHEN IT WAS RELEASED AND HAVE WATCHED IT WHEN IT IS RARELY AIRED ON TV. (HAVEN'T SEEN IT ON TCM YET) THE CAST IS MAGNIFICENT WITH STANDOUT PERFORMANCES. THIS MOVIE WILL WRING YOU EMOTIONS FROM LAUGHTER TO TEARS. I WOULD PAY A PRINCELY SUM TO GET MY HANDS ON A DVD COPY.

Great storyline during WWII of fatherRichard Crennen) going to war and moving his family from Mobile, Alabama to Sante Fe, NM while he is away. His son (Richard Thomas)goes through adjustments of making new friends in new high school. Very touching story, great performances by Richard Thomas, Desi Arnez, Jr., Clara Bloom.

filmed in and around Santa Fe, N.M. is a drop of nostalgia for me. but that aside, this is R. Thomas,R. Crenna,J.Colicos etc. in a growing up during the war, with dad away and teen-age son trying to hold it together. Mom is sinking into alchol, leeching uncle trying to hole up for a free place to eat and stay. brings up some gang issues, boy turning into young man issues and great scenery of northern n.m. and the Sangre De Cristo mountains. excellent soundtrack too. Miss this movie, and the version that very rarely come to t.v. is so cut up. (some nude breasts were seen, and some very mild cussing is used.) that it isn't even worth taping. Need to see the real version.
