NOTES

powered by AFI

This film's working titles were Steamboat Mary and Old Lady Ironsides. After the film's onscreen credits, there is a written statement that reads: "To those women we forget too soon, who taught us the three R's-Rapped our knuckles with a ruler-Looked behind our ears-To those second mothers, our school teachers, this picture is dedicated." A Hollywood Reporter post-release news item credits the picture's story idea to Cy Bartlett; however, no other information confirming his participation has been found. Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety news items note that the following actors were to be included in the cast: Donald Haines, Mickey Martin, William Lemuels, Ann Traverso, Monte Vandergrift, William F. Mitchell, Raymond Turner, Earl Dwire, Leonard Kibrick, Ed Cook, Buster Slaven, Marvin Stephens and Frankie Genardi. Their participation in the completed film has not been confirmed, however. Two Wise Maids was the last film of actress Lila Lee. Although Nation Aflame, a 1937 Treasure Pictures Corp. production featuring Lee, was released after this film, it was produced in late 1936.
