This film has a great Late Eisenhower look to it, courtesy of the team of LeRoy and Shamroy, but Richard Breen's screenplay, alas, is redolent of the title; at best it's like a mid level episode of "McHale's Navy". And though Dick Shawn has a nice, Eddie Bracken's younger brother aspect to his persona, and Margo Moore kinda reminds me of Julie Hagerty, I find myself, as always when contemplating Ernie Kovacs, wondering, "If this guy is so comic cutting edge then why aren't I laughing more"? Give it a C plus.

The first time I saw this movie (on TCM I Believe) I became an instant Ernie Kovac fan. I thought it was a very funny movie and would love to see it again on TCM. Maybe y'all can do one of those special showings when his birthday rolls around, I'm sure many other viewers would love to it too. Thanks

I watched this movie several years ago and have been looking for it ever sense, Its a brilliant post war comedy, on level with jack lemmon's Mad Ball. a situation comedy where an officer who is misplaced on and island who's military personal are suffering from a crisis of poor moral, to raise moral and raise good will with the natives on the island they decide to build a hotel, with leftover military supply's. and hire native women on the island. which adds to the main officers Gus Brubaker problems.
